Mihai Plătică (b. 1983)

Before graduating with a photography degree in Cluj, Mihai Plătică was a professional athlete (long jump), which offered him a quite organized and rational life experience and most likely influenced the artist in defining his work technique later on. Plătică has always been interested in the history of the body, the nature of materiality and the universal laws of physics. He enjoys conceiving objects/sculptures and photographs using scientific theories that allow for a different positioning. His approach is methodical, scientific, rational, but the artist always attempts to open new perspectives on the world. In his exhibitions he wishes to convey an entire mood, not just the object, but its context as well.

Combining Landscape Elements a, t, v, n

“The idea behind the juxtaposition of landscapes and chemical elements is that in nature there are unexpected analogies which can be explained if we look at the composition of the matter”, says Mihai Plătică. On one hand, his works create analogies between landscapes and anodized niobium (a), two tritium isotopes (t), a sheet plate of vanadium (v) and a sheet plate of niobium 99.9% (n), on the other.
