Index of Lost Matter documents the deterioration of a single memory over a few months.
Inspired by the concept that revisiting a memory slowly erodes its contents, the project follows the evolution of those small, residual details that get lost along the way.
An index forms out of all the forgotten elements and their concrete transformations in time.
Each chapter marks a return, a retelling of the initial story in the way it is now remembered. A new stage of each element begins: intactness, partial remembrance or complete deterioration.
This documentary approach begins to outline the portrait of the artist’s father, the subject of the research.
The initial memory takes a new shape, altered by the details they get attached to, as a result of his experiences.
In the end, the memory is no longer neutral and recreating the original one is no longer possible.
The installation reflects the linear path of the book, showcasing the natural way of remembering something; in the center, the details that remain intact, on the sides, everything that stays forgotten.
